Drury Spotlight: Catherine Robinson '15

Majors: Spanish and Advertising/Public Relations
Hometown: Independence, Mo.
Current Occupation: Consulting Analyst for Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Mo.

Catherine RobinsonCatherine Robinson considers studying abroad one of her most rewarding experiences as an undergraduate student at Drury. Before she graduated magna cum laude in May of 2015, Robinson studied in London during her junior year. Robinson says, “It’s a chance to learn so much about the world and about yourself. I think it perfectly complements the liberal arts focus at Drury.”

In her position as a consulting analyst for Cerner Corporation, Robinson says that she “travels 100% of the time, working in different hospitals around the country and supporting physicians as they learn to use Cerner’s health information technology solutions.” With degrees in Spanish and advertising/public relations, Robinson believes that her Drury education gave her the critical thinking, writing, and speaking skills to help her be successful in any situation. She says, “Since I'm traveling so much, my Spanish major is an additional tool I have that could help me at any time. Cerner has clients in more than 30 countries, and there are opportunities for me to work and live abroad in the future.” Robinson understands that knowing another language boosts her chances of being able to do so.

Besides studying abroad, Robinson encourages current students to “find the things that you care about and work hard for them. Maybe it’s an academic competition such as Ad Team or Solar Decathlon, or maybe it’s the student newspaper, The Mirror. Whatever those things are, work hard for them, have pride in what you do, and by the time you graduate, you will find that you’re ready to take on the world.”
