Dr. Suzanne (Suzie) Scott has over 20 years of domestic and international experience in higher education. She has over 15 years’ experience in engineering design education in the Middle East and the US, including 10 years at the Petroleum Institute (PI) in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Scott’s expertise includes development of soft skills like teamwork, leadership, open-ended problem-solving, written, oral and intercultural communications, project management and professionalism within a technical environment. In addition to the Petroleum Institute, Dr. Scott has held a faculty position at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) where she specialized in teaching cornerstone engineering design. In 2003 she was recruited by CSM to participate in the development of the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi, where she participated as part of a team adapting a Western university model to Middle Eastern culture. Dr. Scott is the founder of the joint CSM/PI initiative entitled “Preparing Global Engineers: Developing Engineering Design Education Across Cultures.” She has coordinated international engineering design competitions between both universities with students and faculty, and organized intercultural forums. Her primary research interests are in preparing global engineers, intercultural communication, and multidisciplinary education for the global engineer.
Dr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts from Drury, a Master of Arts from Washington University and a Ph.D. from the University of Denver.
